Hard work of Newcastle Lions promotes great success in community

At a quiz night held in the Anchor Bar Newcastle Lions raised £300 for Dementia Ni. This charity had been chosen by the Lions President Beth Cairnduff as her mum suffered from the disease in her later years. Dementia Ni is a local Northern Ireland charity whose aim is to  challenge the stigma of having a diagnosis of dementia and to support its members who are all sufferers to campaign for the rights of people living with the disease. They assist members with details of help available from a range of other providers as well encouraging the establishment of support groups. 

As  well  as  enjoying  pub quiz's, club members also  enjoyed social events which included a barbeque, and Thursday coffee mornings. In October 2025 the  Lions got fund raising under way resulting in a donation of £1,000.00 to the  Air Ambulance, a donation of £1,200.00 was also made to Daisy Lodge, Children' Cancer  Home. On the 12th September, the club hope to donate again to Daisy  Lodge , when they host their annual  Daisy Dander on Newcastle Promenade. At  Christmas 2025 following successful fund  raising of  £4,000.00, the club  made numerous large donations to groups, including  Shimna Special Olympic All Stars, MYMY, The  Ark, Homeless  Appeal and Cystic Fibrosis. The  new year  2026, saw the Club punching  above its  weight when they held a sale of  donated art, given freely by local artists, resulting in  a donation of  £2,000.00 to the N.I. Children's and Adult Hospice Belfast. The new year also showed that Newcastle Lions Club was not all about  raising  donations, which it gave 100% to  the  nominated  charity but  a lot of  hard  work, in collecting  sewing  machines, tools and thousands of spectacles to help the Third World. Following the death of local  resident Geoff Cartwright in 2017, the club assisted  the Cartwright  family to fund raise and  install ten life  saving  defibrillators through out the area. As part of the Lions ongoing service deeds, they keep the  defibrillators  available  24 hours a day, by monitoring and maintaining them, much to satisfaction of the N.I. Ambulance Service, who have complemented the club for their great work.
